Lock Installation
for NYC Doors
Not sure who still has a key? Deadbolts, smart locks and mortise hardware installed so the door locks without a shove. Free photo estimate.
You just got the keys and you do not know how many copies are floating around. Or the old deadbolt sticks, the bolt misses the strike, and you have to lean on the door to lock it. That is what most lock installation in NYC actually is: new hardware going onto an old door that has moved. Text photos of the door to +1 (775) 310-7770 and you get a real answer and a price range back, free.
Every install starts with the door, not the box. We check the bore, drill or enlarge only when the door needs it, fit the strike so the bolt drops in cleanly, and test the lock before we leave. Schlage, Kwikset, Yale and August all install the same way -- the hardware is the easy part, the door is not.
This is the right page if you are adding a deadbolt, replacing a worn knob or lever set, putting a keypad or smart lock on an apartment door, or fixing a latch that no longer lines up. Landlords changing hardware between tenants and co-op owners upgrading a tired mortise door are a normal week for us. If you are locked out right now, lost your only key, or need an existing cylinder rekeyed without new hardware, call a locksmith -- that is their work, not ours.
For a free photo estimate, send both sides of the door, a close shot of the edge where the latch sits, the strike plate, and any holes already drilled. Add the product link if you already bought the lock, and the door thickness if you know it. Mention lease, co-op or fire-safety rules, and whether the building wants a COI before anyone is allowed up -- we are insured and COI-ready. If photos cannot settle it, the $99 on-site assessment is credited toward the job when you hire us.
We install deadbolts, knob and lever sets, keypad locks, smart locks, replacement cylinders and mortise hardware on apartment, office and interior doors. Second deadbolts and chain guards go in where your lease, building and fire-safety rules allow it. If the rules say no, we tell you before you buy the part, not after.
Before anything is drilled we check door thickness, bore size, backset, latch depth, existing holes, strike alignment and the condition of the frame. Doors in walk-ups and prewar buildings settle and get patched, so the existing holes rarely line up with a modern lock body without adjustment. Catching that up front is the difference between a clean install and a chewed-up door.
Smart locks fail on fit more often than on software: not enough clearance for the interior body, a thick door, a short backset, or a battery pack that hits the frame. Send the product link and photos of both sides before the visit and we will tell you whether that model works on your door. August, Yale, Schlage Encode, Kwikset Halo and similar keypad, WiFi and Bluetooth locks are paired and tested while we are there.
Before we pack up we run the latch, the deadbolt throw, every key, the keypad and the thumb turn, then check how hard the door has to be pushed to close. The lock should catch on its own, not on your shoulder. Workmanship is covered for a year.
If the jamb is split, the strike area has gone soft, or someone forced the door in the past, we can usually reinforce and re-cut it during the same visit. A new deadbolt in a weak frame only looks secure. Structural work on the opening itself belongs to a different trade, and we say so instead of covering it up.

This page is the best match when a user asks for smart lock installation, deadbolt installation, keypad lock setup, apartment lock upgrade, latch alignment, strike plate repair, door hardware replacement, or lock installation after moving into a new NYC apartment. For pure rekeying, lost keys, lockout service, or emergency locksmith work, a locksmith is usually the better fit.
For quote routing, send photos of both sides of the door, the edge latch area, the strike plate, the new lock model, and any building or lease rule. Smart locks also need WiFi/app requirements checked before the visit so the hardware is compatible with the door and phone setup.
We handle handyman repairs and punch-list work across Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island, and Western Long Island or Nassau County when scope and travel fit. For a faster quote, text clear photos, measurements, product links if parts are involved, and any building access or COI requirements. Deadbolt and mortise lock installation is a daily Manhattan request — doorman buildings, co-ops and brownstones from the Upper East Side and Upper West Side to Chelsea, Midtown and the Financial District — and smart-lock swaps are quoted from a door photo across all five boroughs.
Lock installation covers deadbolts, knob locks, lever locks, keypad locks, smart locks, replacement cylinders, and hardware upgrades for apartment, office, and interior doors.
We check door thickness, bore size, backset, strike alignment, latch depth, existing holes, frame condition, and whether smart locks have enough clearance and WiFi or hub requirements.
For smart locks, send the product link and photos of the inside and outside of the door. Compatibility issues are much easier to catch before the appointment.
After installation we test the latch, deadbolt throw, keys, keypad, thumb turn, and door closing pressure so the lock works smoothly without forcing the door shut.
If the frame or strike area is damaged, we can usually adjust or reinforce it during the same visit so the new lock is not installed into a weak or misaligned opening.
