Before anything is drilled we check door thickness, bore size, backset, latch depth, existing holes, strike alignment and the condition of the frame. Doors in walk-ups and pre-war buildings settle and get patched, so the existing holes rarely line up with a modern lock body without adjustment — that adjustment is where the price moves. Prices are labor; the lock hardware is yours or quoted separately.

What drives the price
- Lock type: a deadbolt into an existing bore is the base case; mortise bodies and smart locks take longer.
- Door condition: patched or misaligned holes need chiseling or a wrap plate.
- Smart locks: clearance, door thickness and WiFi or hub requirements are checked first.
- Frame and strike: a strike that does not line up means the door will not lock without a shove — fixed as part of the job.
- Metal doors: common in NYC buildings and slower to drill than wood.
What's included

When it's not a handyman job
- If you are locked out right now, lost your only key, or need an existing cylinder rekeyed without new hardware, call a locksmith — that is their work, not ours.
