What drives the price

• Unit type and weight: a small window unit is a one-person lift; large window units, through-wall units in a sleeve and PTAC cabinets take two people and more time.
• What stays in the opening: a window closes and locks; a through-wall sleeve gets an insulated winter panel or the unit stays in place with a cover; a bracket may have to come off the sill.
• Access: floor, elevator or walk-up, and how far the unit travels to its storage spot.

• Ductless mini-splits and anything with refrigerant lines are an HVAC contractor's job, not a removal we do.

How the assessment visit and the work minimum are priced

Photo and text estimates are free — send photos and you get a real range. If the job needs eyes on site first, the assessment visit is $99 plus sales tax and is credited toward approved work done within 30 days — longer when agreed in writing in advance. There is a $150 work minimum. After a $99 assessment, a $150 job means you pay the $51 difference plus tax. Frequently asked questions

When should a window AC come out for the winter?

Before the first cold week, usually October in New York City. An air conditioner left in the window all winter is a draft, a place for cold air and rain to get in, and a weight on the sill through freeze-and-thaw cycles. If it stays in, at least a fitted cover and foam around the frame cut the draft.

Do you take out through-wall and PTAC units too?

Yes. A through-wall unit slides out of its sleeve, and the sleeve gets an insulated winter panel so the room does not lose heat through the opening; a PTAC cabinet is heavier and is priced on its own line. A unit that is hardwired on a 240V circuit is disconnected by a NYC Licensed Master Electrician first.

Can you store the unit for us?

We prepare it for storage in your apartment or building: drained, wiped down, wrapped and carried to the closet, basement or storage room you point to. We do not take units off site for storage.

What happens to the bracket and the opening?

The window closes and locks like any other window; the bracket can stay for spring or come off if you prefer a clear sill. A through-wall sleeve stays in the wall with a winter panel. If you are retiring the unit and want the wall closed, that is a drywall repair we quote from photos.

We manage a building with many units — how is that priced?

Several units in one visit are priced as a set in the multi-unit line. Send the unit count and types, floors and elevator access, and whether units are being stored or disposed of, and we send one estimate for the building; a certificate of insurance is available for the management office.
